5 Skin Care Tips for Each Skin Type …

1. Normal Skin

Normal skin, although being the least problematic type, still requires cleaning, nourishing, and moisturizing.

1. In the morning, refresh your skin with rose water or an alcohol-free astringent tonic and moisturize it with a mild, non-greasy cream, preferably made from natural ingredients without petroleum by-products.

2. Use a good quality make-up, but do not overindulge. Before bed, gently wash your face with a mild soap, such as goat milk soap, and put on a bit of an oil-based nourishing cream, paying particular attention to the areas around your eyes.

3. After about 15 minutes, gently pat your skin dry with a napkin.

4. Once a week, use an egg yolk mask, or any other natural and non-drying mask to feed and rejuvenate your face skin.

5. Do not forget to take care about your body, as well. Every day after showering, use a mild moisturizing lotion to keep your body skin supple and healthy.

2. Dry Skin

Dry skin requires a more thorough care, since it is prone to flaking, irritating, and fast aging.

1. If your skin is dry, you should use only natural and rich skin-care products, such as undiluted shea butter, extra-virgin coconut oil, or home-made herbal oils.

2. Apply them twice a day and allow some time for your skin to absorb nourishing and moisturizing ingredients from the oil before putting a hypoallergenic make-up on.

3. Try not to use tap water, if you must wash it, use sparkling water.

4. Instead, clean your facial skin with mild cleansing milks or herbal infusions. With good care, dry skin will always look healthy and smooth.

5. Get a humidifier, it should be on day and night, in winter and in summer, because air conditioning, which is always on, dries your skin every single day.

3. Oily Skin …

Oily skin requires the opposite approach. Instead of putting an emphasis on nourishing, you should focus on removing excess oil from it, hydrating, cleaning enlarged pores, and preventing or treating acne.

1. Wash your skin about 2-3 times a day, but use a mild soap only once a day, because otherwise oil glands will be stimulated to produce even more sebum.

2. Use only non-greasy moisturisers and tone your face often with alcohol-free herbal tonics or ice cubes, which will restore the health and balance of your skin.

3. The best masks for oily skin are those featuring drying and hydrating ingredients, for example, clay, papaya, or yogurt.

4. Apply once a week and make sure to rinse your face thoroughly with cool water after about 20 minutes.

5. In case of acne, remove sugar and other carbohydrates from your diet and make sure not to eat any processed foods.

4. Combination Skin

Combination skin may be complicated to manage, because it has both oily and dry areas each requiring different care. The trick is to use oily skin tips for the facial areas of oily skin (usually, on the forehead and nose) and to apply dry skin tips to the areas of dry skin (around the eyes and on the cheeks).

Tips for T-Zone:

1. Wash it once a day with a mild facial soap or cleanser.

2. Use a toner for oily skin on this very part (I find Clinique Toners be wonderful for reducing oil production and oil shine).

3. Use a light get moisturizer that won’t be clogging the pores in your T-zone area.

4. Apply a mat-finish primer after applying moisturizer, it will keep your T-zone shine-free.

5. Apply a pore minimizing mask and use facial scrub for oily skin on your forehead, nose and chicks once a week. It will make your skin look smoother and more even-toned

5. Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin is always very dry and irritated, this is why you should take a very thorough care of it using the above tips for dry skin. Additional hints:

1. Watch what you eat and make sure to consume a fair amount of essential fatty acids, organic protein, yogurt, and lacto-fermented fruits and vegetables.

2. Remember that women who eat a vegetarian, or even worse so, a vegan, diet, usually develop very dry, wrinkled, and irritated skin.

3. Try not to use commercial creams and moisturizers that have petroleum. Go for natural or organic skin care for sensitive skin instead.

4. Eliminate processed foods from your diet. This way you’ll assure you do not get any irritations from food allergies.

5. Protect your skin from the sun by wearing an organic sunscreen SPF 30 or more every time you go outside.

# Type 1: Oily Oily skin tends to shiny with enlarged pores, and is prone to blackheads and blemishes. You might experience some tightness.

# Type 2: Combination/normal This skin type has medium pores, a smooth and even texture, good circulation, healthy color, may tend toward dryness on the cheeks while being oily in the t-zone.

# Type 3: Sensitive Sensitive skin tends to be thin, delicate with fine pores. It flushes easily, is prone to broken capillaries, is frequently allergic and can be rashy.

# Type 4: Dry Dry skin feels tight, especially after cleansing. You have a tendency towards fine wrinkles, flaking and red patches. In women of color, skin may appear ashy or dull from dead skin buildup.

# Type 5: Aging or sun-damaged This skin also feels tight with visible wrinkles, slack skin tone -- especially around the cheeks and jawline -- with leathery texture and broken capillaries.

Five Basic Skin Types

There are five basic skin types. They are

1. Normal skin
2. Dry skin
3. Oily skin
4. Combination skin
5. Sensitive skin

Normal Skin

It has a fine even texture with a supple and smooth surface. It has a proper balance between oil and moisture contents and is therefore moist and neither greasy nor dry. The pores of normal skin are small and the overall skin tone is even. It looks clear and does not develop spots and blemishes. The pores of the skin are fine and barely visible. It reflects good health and needs gentle treatment.

Dry skin

Dry skin has a dry parched appearance and has a tendency to flake easily. It is prone to wrinkles and lines. It is due to the inability to retain moisture as well as the insufficient production of sebum by the sebaceous glands. Dry skin often has problems in cold weather and ages faster than normal or oily skin. Constant protection is very important. It needs a moisturiser during the day and a good cream at night.

Oily skin

As its name implies, oily skin is slightly to moderately greasy. This type of skin is caused by the over secretion of sebum making the skin surface oily. The excess oil on the surface of the skin attracts dirt and dust from the environment. Oily skin is also prone to black heads, white heads, spots, pimples and such skin will never be clear. This type of skin needs to be cleansed thoroughly.

Combination skin

This type of skin is very common. As the name suggests, it is a combination of both oily and dry skin with certain areas of the face oily and the rest dry. Usually there is a Central greasy panel consisting of the forehead, nose and chin and a dry panel consisting of cheeks and the areas around the eyes and mouth. The greasy central panel is referred to as T - Zone. In such cases, each part of the face should be treated accordingly - the dry areas as for dry skin and the central panel as for oily skin and use skin care products made especially for combination skin.

Sensitive skin

This type of skin has a fine texture and is very sensitive to changes in the climate. They show the disadvantage of bleaching, Waxing, threading, perfumes, temperature extremes, soap etc and for men sun, perfumes, shaving cream etc. Avoid products with dyes, perfumes, or unnecessary chemical ingredients that may irritate skin.
